2019 Development Report
5 In 2019, Franklin continued to experience significant population growth, the lowest unemployment in the State, and significant investment in our community. Ramsey Solutions opened their new Headquarters with the first of three buildings, Schneider Electric and Aetna Insurance opened regional headquarters, Mitsubishi North America relocated to Franklin, and the new Harpeth Square complex opened east of the square in downtown Franklin. These are just a few of many active projects. These companies represent part of the twenty percent of the management jobs within the State of Tennessee that are located within our community. Recently released data reveals that in the next twenty-five years, our County’s population is projected to grow at a rate of 149% with the number of jobs in the community more than doubling during this timeframe. These statistics foretell the need to be planning for our future. I am glad to report that we are planning for our future in every aspect of City services while at the same time creating a sustainable financial plan. Already, we see the plan being implemented with a $132 million water reclamation facility, construction of the northwest segment of Mack Hatcher Parkway, and further expansion of connectivity with sidewalks and trails. More infrastructure projects will be starting in the coming months. The City continues to be on sound financial footing with a recent AAA rating by both Moody’s and Standard and Poor. Our financial benchmarks are being met and exceeded. This development report highlights the construction activity for the past year and reflects the current trends and statistics. The implementation of the City’s land use plan, Envision Franklin, and the approval of the new zoning ordinance, created by our staff, will continue to promote high quality development and managed growth within our boundaries. Franklin is blessed with a great City team, an engaged dedicated Board of Mayor and Aldermen, and caring citizens. Our future continues to look bright as a destination for families, businesses, and visitors. LETTER FROM THE MAYOR
