In 1895, she married Nathaniel Bell Dozier (1846–1918), a Confederate veteran and wealthy banker from Lebanon, TN. Tennie Pinkerton Dozier was heavily involved in women’s clubs and organizations throughout the country. A member of the Presbyterian church, she was initially involved in Christian missionary work, social services, and the temperance movement. Dozier’s passion for preserving local history and places associated with the Revolutionary War and Civil War led her to play pivotal leadership roles in several local and state patriotic organizations, including the Franklin chapter of the UDC, Tennessee Branch of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, Women’s Tennessee Historical Association, and Tennessee chapter of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America.23 While serving as president of the Franklin UDC, Dozier represented the group at national conferences in Baltimore in 1897 and Charleston in 1903. She organized the Franklin UDC Historical Society in 1906 and served as the historian for the Tennessee division of the UDC from 1906 to 1908. Dozier compiled several volumes of history associated with the Civil War, women, and statesmen. Prior to her death in 1918, she led efforts to establish a national military park and memorial arch in Franklin. She conceived the idea and led efforts to construct the Confederate Memorial Hall (NHL 1966). Dozier lived in a restored 1904 Queen Anne-style house at 1009 West Main Street in the Hincheyville Historic District (NRHP 1982). She was buried in Franklin’s Mt. Hope Cemetery.
