387 DEFINITIONS AND INTERPRETATIONS Defined Terms 23 Chapter Franklin Zoning Ordinance Effective December 30, 2019 Travel Lane Portions of a public or private street, internal drive, or drive aisle intended solely for the movement of vehicles, not parking or standing. Tree Bank A fund as described in Subsection 17.2.8, Tree Bank. Tree Pit Pervious areas within a sidewalk, plaza, or other impervious surface that have been designated for the growth of street tree roots. Tree Removal Permit A type of permit to remove a tree not associated with an approved building permit, grading permit, site plan, preliminary plat, final plat, or stormwater management permit. Tree Save Area The portion of a development site or lot located under existing tree canopy that is to be retained during the development process. Tree Topping Removal of entire branches, leaves, and/or trunk from the top of a tree. Townhouse (Use Type) A type of residential use where the dwelling units are joined side-by-side and separated by shared walls. They have independent access to the exterior and generally have small yards. Traffic Calming Measure A natural or constructed feature located within or adjacent to a street that is designed to reduce motorist speed and/or vehicle volumes, while at the same time increasing safety for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles. Traffic Impact Study An analysis of the effect of traffic generated by a proposed development or redevelopment on street capacity, operations, and public safety. Trail An access way, whether paved or unpaved, that is intended to serve multiple modes of travel including walking, jogging, bicycling, or other forms of non-motorized transport. Transitional Features Architectural elements or site aspects that provide a compatible transition between land uses, subdivisions, sites, lots, or structures throughout the City. Transportation and Street Technical Standards The transportation design requirements that present a comprehensive approach to designing new and modified streets within the City of Franklin.
