12 208 Chapter  LANDSCAPE Franklin Zoning Ordinance Effective December 8, 2020 12.8.8 Credit for Existing Vegetation Existing healthy, well-formed canopy trees or understory trees located along the street shall be credited toward the street tree requirements, provided the vegetation is: A. Surveyed, inventoried, and protected before and during development of the site in accordance with Subsection 17.2.6, Tree Protection During Construction; and B. Located in suitable locations to meet the standards of this Section. 12.9 Planting Standards 12.9.1 Minimum Quality and Size Standards A. Newly planted landscape plant materials shall conform to the latest version of the American Standard for Nursery Stock, ANSI Z60.1-2014. B. Type 1, 2, and 3 Trees, shall meet the planting and size requirements as defined in ANSI Z60.1. 1. Canopy trees shall be a minimum of two inches in caliper at the time of planting, as determined in the American Standard for Nursery Stock, ANSI Z60.1-2004. 2. Understory trees shall have a caliper of 1.5 inches at time of planting, as determined in the American Standard for Nursery Stock, ANSI Z60.1-2004. Multi-stemvarieties shall be aminimum of ten feet in height above ground level at the time of planting. 3. Evergreen trees shall be a minimum of six feet in height and a minimum of two inches in caliper at the time of planting. 4. Except where required to be taller, shrubs shall be a minimum of 18 inches in height above ground level at the time of planting, and shall typically grow to a minimum height of five to six feet within four years. C. Plant materials used to meet the requirements of this Ordinance shall be selected, installed, and maintained from the City’s approved list, specifications, and details on the City website, unless otherwise approved by the Department of Planning and Sustainability. D. Plants listed on the current edition of the Invasive Exotic Pest Plants of Tennessee, as published by the Tennessee Exotic Pest
