Chimneys • Avoid using chimneys on civic buildings, as these features are not historically typical. Gutters and Downspouts • Match the gutter style to the building’s architectural style. Use half- round gutters if the building’s architectural style dates before the 1930s. Use k-style or ogee gutters if the building’s architectural style dates after the 1930s. • Locate downspouts away from architectural features and in less visible locations. Dormers • Avoid the use of dormers on new civic buildings.
