DRAFT FRANKLIN HISTORIC DISTRICT DESIGN GUIDELINES 136 Signs Signs for Residential Infill Neighborhoods Appropriate Sign Types Sign types that may be appropriate for the entrance into a residential infill neighborhood include: Signs for Residential Infill Neighborhoods These signs should only be considered as part of a residential neighborhood that will be developed on a new street within the district. The selection of the appropriate sign type should be based on the surrounding historic context. Guidelines for each type of sign are found in the Specific SignGuidelines Section. Number of Signs Neighborhood entrances onto new streets may have up to two signs when development entrance signs are used because they are typically placed within masonry entrance walls that flank the new street. If another sign type is determined to be more appropriate, such as a post-and-arm sign or post-and- panel sign, only one sign should be used to designate the entrance.
