Where display windows are used, provide at least a three-foot deep display area. Materials and Exterior Finishes • Use brick or masonry materials that are compatible in size, profile, and detailing with historic materials. • Avoid glass, metal, wood, vinyl, or stucco materials for exterior surfaces. • Use roofing materials that are historically typical and complement the architectural style of the building. Rubber membrane roofing material is appropriate for flat roofs with parapet walls. • Alternative materials may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Factors of consideration include potential impact on historic significance, durability, accuracy of appearance, location, environmental impacts, and interaction with adjacent historic building materials. Roofs • Design roofs to be flat and utilize parapets to be similar to similar surrounding historic commercial buildings.
