Historic Wayfinding Guidelines
HISTORIC WAYFINDING GUIDELINES 4 Purpose and Goals The purpose of the Historic Wayfinding Plan is to serve as a reference document for the placement of directional signage to Franklin’s historic sites. The identification of historic resources and cultural amenities is a paramount objective to the community, and the Historic Wayfinding Plan builds upon this objective by addressing the following considerations: • Improves and enhances the citizen and visitor experience by creating a cohesive, consistent wayfinding program for Franklin’s historic resources; • Creates a brandmark that will both indicate a wayfinding message and be distinctive from other guide signs; • Broadens the number of driving routes so as to include the city limits of Franklin, all major corridors, and downtown Franklin; • Educates citizens and visitors by introducing a Fuller Story of the local Civil War experience • Meets applicable standards of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for guide signage; and • Provides the City of Franklin with a guide by which to produce and install the signs in an easily expandable and sustainable manner.
