They should not open onto the public sidewalk. • Avoid the use of sliding gates. • Conceal electrical and mechanical equipment, if used. • Select gate locations that meet all Zoning Ordinance requirements. • Build new retaining walls of stone or brick. • Select retaining wall materials that are similar in scale, texture, color, and form as those historically used in the district and that are compatible with the main building. • Avoid the use of concrete blocks, poured concrete, and exposed concrete masonry units as surface materials.
