Commercial buildings typically have forms with flat roofs and parapet walls, and they were originally constructed for commercial uses. This category also includes mixed-use buildings that contain both commercial and multifamily uses. This Chapter presents an overview of preservation of historic commercial buildings, including maintenance and repair, replacement, and alterations. It provides guidance on additions to historic commercial buildings, additions and alterations to non-historic commercial buildings, and guidance for the construction of new commercial buildings in Franklin’s historic districts.
