First time visitors also benefit from easy access to information that encourages longer stays. Since many travel decisions are made after arrival, cross promotion strategies—such as free admission for front line employees, regular updates for staff, and small displays or exhibits placed throughout the community—can boost heritage site visitation, repeat visits, and overall length of stay. Strengthen and expand Franklin’s heritage trail network to create clear physical connections between key historic destinations. Franklin should consider establishing a walkable heritage trail anchored in downtown. A downtown heritage trail could create a unified experience that celebrates the city’s rich cultural and historical landscape. Several heritage trails have been researched, including trails to connect sites for the Walk Toward Freedom Trail and the Fuller Story. Implementing these heritage trails and expanding them to include additional African American historical sites, such as the McLemore House and the American Legion Post 215, will strengthen interpretation of Franklin’s diverse history. Improving connectivity among existing routes can extend visitor stays and boost economic impact, such as the Williamson County History Trail and Tennessee Civil War Trails. Strengthen and expand Franklin’s heritage trail network by enhancing digital trail experiences. By coordinating effectively across historic sites, Franklin can make it easier for visitors and residents to move between places of interest and enjoy a more seamless experience. Expanding the History Trail Digital Passport—through increased marketing, broader community input, and additional curated tours— can raise awareness of Franklin’s diverse stories and encourage deeper exploration.
