New lots across the street from and within view of a historic building shall comply with Section 18.7, Corridor Context. 18.6.5 Contextual Design of New Buildings New buildings within view of the historic building shall be similar in scale and architectural character with the historic building; however, the historic building shall not be emulated to such an extent that it loses its prominence. Design elements shall include the following: A. Rather than attempting to mirror the scale of the historic building, new buildings shall be subordinate in their perceived scale to the historic building; B. The roof pitch of new buildings shall be similar to the historic building; C. The roof forms, materials, and colors of new buildings shall be similar to the nearby historic building (for example, an asphalt shingle roof on a new building that emulates slate in color and approximate thickness would be similar with a slateroofed historic building); D. The shape, proportion, rhythm, and spacing of openings of new buildings shall be similar to that of the historic building; E. Nearby buildings shall have key architectural components of the historic building, such as porches, dormers, and arches; and F. The materials of the historic building shall be respected by their use to some degree on nearby new buildings.
